THE ORIGINS OF HANDBALL

The origins of the handball date back to early last century. From the existing documentation, was introduced in 1915 by German Max Heiser a game called TORBALL inspired to basketball, football and volleyball. In 1925 it was officially incorporated in the “Arbeirter Turn und Sport Bund”, a body bringing together all the German sports federations. Carlo Diem, author of “Universal History of Sport” perfected further disclosure in the game throughout Germany and neighboring countries where he said quickly. A demonstration of the game was given during the Olympic Games in Amsterdam but the final consecration took place with the inclusion of a tournament in the program of Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. In 1938 were organized the first World Championship since 1952 and took off the practice development of the game “to seven.”

 

HANDBALL IN ITALY

In 1966, with the help of M. Sagui, Inspector “Junesse et des Sports”, the technical direction of ISEF of Rome and the French Federation of Handball has been able to organize a training course to the practice of the game for students of 3rd year of ISEF of Rome (Course N). This course, led by prof. Choley of the National Institute of Sports in Paris, 21 times national of France, was attended by 33 students among whom the prof. Niziano Mion, who then organized and distributed from 1966 to 1977 handball in Vicenza. Under the program-wise gymnastic athlete from ISEF in Rome to Spoleto on May 21 1966, two teams of students disputed the first game of handball to seven in Italy. In 1967, was formed in Rome a “Promotional Committee for dissemination in Italy” and two years later borned the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Handball.

 

HANDBALL IN VICENZA

Concluded his studies at the ISEF in Rome, prof. Niziano Mion was dedicated to the promotion of the Olympics organizing courses for trainers and referees, in the city and province. The first field of Handball was made to Campedello asphalt a football pitch of the parish: there, the “HANDBALL RIVIERA” then Section of the Society Football “Berici Riviera”, took his first steps by organizing friendly with the other single team North, Rosmini Rovereto of prof. Angelo Marchetti who for many years to win the championship Italian Serie A. After some years in the Serie C, “HANDBALL RIVIERA” succeeded in Serie B in 1973-74 after win play-off with the teams of Bressanone, Virtus Bologna and Endas Parma. Subsequently, the departure of brothers Lucio and Gianfranco Palin, for military service, the team returned to series C where remained for another few years until it was taken over by prof. Eliseo Bernardi who founded the A.S. Handball Vicenza. Meanwhile, the Olympics, had begun to spread in schools by the Province Teachers of Physical Education (in Torri di Quartesolo with the prof. Giuseppe Villanova, in Malo with professors Tarsilla Mion and De Tomi, in Noventa Vicentina with prof. Giuseppe Mercante and several other institutes superiors with the prof. Niziano Mion (Fusinieri) with the prof. Turra (Canova).

 

THE PIONEER

Niziano Mion was coach of  Handball  Riviera from 1966 to 1977. He was a member of the Commissione Nazionale Allenatori from 1973 to 1975 by conducting technical courses in Vicenza and Bergamo and a National Course 3rd level at the sport plants of Acqua Cetosa in Rome along with Guthveniger, Capra and Silvestrucci, (other pioneers of the Italian Handball ) In which he participated as a student, the current technical Italian prof. Giuseppe Lo Duca from Trieste, Prof. Niziano Mion has also taken part in numerous stage in Umago, Parenzo and Trogir in the ex Yugoslavia. In 1998, after twenty years of forced absence due to professional commitments, is part of the world and the Olympics along with Gaetano Bernardotto, Augusto Palin and Raimondo Pelliccioni to reimburse Campedello a new company, handball the Riviera ‘98.
